Leave it to the Yankees to start preparing for 2010 the day after a victory parade.  After achieving goal No. 27, word is that manager Joe Girardi will be taking Melky Cabrera’s old No. 28 in pursuit of the repeat.

 

It’s been a while since I’ve drawn Girardi, as well as the brothers Steinbrenner, Hank and Hal.  I decided to put Girardi in the grey locker room championship t-shirt simply for the fun of it and to get that real “fresh off winning” feel to it.  Originally there was no confetti, balloon, or champagne bottle, and the whole image felt a little empty.  WIth those elements added in, the juxtaposition in the cartoon really fits.
