Go, Go, Godzilla!

You could hear the chants of “MVP!  MVP!” in the Stadium as Hideki Matsui came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 6.  He had already hit a two-run homerun off Pedro in the second inning, a two-out, two-RBI single in the third, and a two-run double in the fifth.  Six RBIs in Game 6, eight in the Series, something no one has done since Reggie Jackson in ’77 and ’78.

Of course, what no one could have predicted was the sheer run on Matsui merchandise following the official MVP honors, as stores were picked clean very quickly of jerseys bearing No. 55.  Naturally, they’re out of stock in the size of Matsui’s (literally) biggest fan.

As for the title, they always play Blue Öyster Cult’s “Godzilla” at the Stadium after a big hit from Matsui - specifically the “go, go, Godzilla” part - and some accompanying graphics on the jumbo-tron of the Japanese monster waving a baseball bat in both hands.
