Ideas for New Year’s Eve is kind of tricky to put down on paper.  There’s the imagery of the ball, a party, noisemakers, hats, etc. and I don’t want to keep doing the same thing every year.  Then it suddenly hit me - Mr. Met has a big giant ball for a head!  What if a worker “misplaced” or broke the Waterford crystal ball and had to find a replacement quick?

 

I really believe this is my best Mr. Met, just because of the nose and eyes here.  I’m also quite fond of the guy in the suit’s expression, as it came out perfect when I pencilled it.   I also really enjoyed creating the night time sky in this cartoon, so much that it superseded my original plan for some skyscrapers around Times Square.
