The Saints Come Marchin’ In

You just knew that after both the Colts and the Saints were going through their seasons undefeated that it would eventually lead to Miami and the Superbowl.  You have to hand it to the Saints though, relegating Peyton Manning on the bench for much of the second quarter and just pummeling the Indianapolis lines 31-17.

I had my cousins over to watch the game and while trying to explain the possibilities for Indianapolis to score late in the fourth, I remember saying “as long as he doesn’t throw an interception...” And of course right then Tracy Porter gets the pick.

So kudos to the Saints, and also to the city of New Orleans, which has really experienced a renaissance since hurricane Katrina and Rita hit, this being the cherry on top.  I had to laugh at Archie Manning, Peyton’s and Eli’s father, as he played for the Saints, but his son was on the other team.  Of course he chose family - and who could blame him? - but I think he mustn’t have felt too let down that the Saints won.

I also love the story of Vince Lombardi’s grandson Joe Lombardi being the Saints’ quarterback coach and now getting to hold the trophy named after his grandfather.

This cartoon really did take a lot of time and effort as I wanted a scene of head coach Sean Payton, Drew Brees and Jeremy Shockey (geeting a second Superbowl win now!) and some of the Saints going down Bourbon St. (and it being right before Mardi Gras, no less) with jazz instruments, playing their titular song.

Of course, I still love Homer Simpson’s version from the season two episode “One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish,” and he’s made it down for the celebration as well!  ^_^
